Tuesday Round Up

Here’s a few scraps of news and comments for today.

EDGEWATER TIF IN TROUBLE?
I think its close.

COMMUTER RAIL IS NOT HIGH SPEED RAIL.  COMMUTER RAIL IS NOT THE RTA!
I know facts don’t matter to conservatives and republicans trying to rile up the public and misinform them, but this is growing tiresome. The proposal to stop the trains 26 times to show how we will be impacted by trains is what set me off today, because mostly, there are no facts about how the trains will work and largely this is just a scare tactic. Equally annoying are the areas that want to have a referendum on a sales tax to pay for commuter rail. The RTA is much more than just commuter rail. It’s also a buses, which hopefully will come first, so the commuter rail questions are misleading and different than agreeing to fund the RTA, so those referendums are nothing but a waste of taxpayer dollars.

FARM AID COMES TO WISCONSIN
And they hold it in October at Miller Stadium? Why not summertime in an outdoor scenic area? Seems odd.

BIG IS STILL BIG
Wow, check out this picture of the “smaller” project proposed, originally they proposed something twice as tall. When can’t development move incrementally instead of by leaps and bounds. If there are 2 and 3 story buildings, try something 4 stories instead. Not 6, and definitely not 12. Are there not limits in the minds of developers?

DESPITE EDGEWATER, THINGS MIGHT BE OK
Duh. This is a good article/opinion on the neighborhood summit. Turns out, the Edgewater was an outlier and the process works just fine and the tension between neighborhoods and developers is natural and perhaps healthy, making the city the great place that it is.

INTERESTING READER OPINION
Hmmmm, this is an interesting comment on the times Madison is living in, compared to where we were years ago. It sure is a different set of values. This one is also interesting, and I just like it cuz its they guy who used to help maintain the gardens in James Madison Park and lived on Gorham St for over 40 years (probably many more) and I enjoyed gardening with him and listening to his stories.

ANOTHER REASON GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT ACT LIKE A BUSINESS
Ooops, did we underpay our workers by $5M, our bad. It’s ok, we’re business and we know best. How dare you question us? This is economic development! Think Kraft/Oscar Mayer will appeal?

HOW DO YOU ZONE THIS?
This would be an interesting test to our zoning code. I’d like to see the look on Matt Tucker’s face if a proposal for this came through.

IS THE MAYOR RUNNING AGAIN
Maybe? Yeah, right.
