You know, none of these have been too controversial and they seem to be growing day by day . . . interesting, eh? Oh, and old news about the new preservation planner.
DEMOLITION ONE
Please be advised that Jeff Kraemer will be filing a demolition permit application on August 4, 2010 for Plan Commission review that calls for a Residential located at 438 W Johnson St Madison, WI 53703 to be demolished. Applicant’s Comments:
This building was not considered significant when the Design 2 District was established in this area. An independent assessment also deemed it as not historic in nature.

DEMOLITION TWO
Please be advised that Dan Wanke will be filing a demolition permit application on July 14, 2010 for Plan Commission review that calls for a Single family house, detached garage and boathouse located at 4942 Lake Mendota Dr Madison, WI 53705 to be demolished. For more information regarding this forthcoming application, you may contact the applicant, Dan Wanke, Capital Builders Inc., 6400 Gisholt Drive, Ste. 105 Madison, WI 53713 at capitalbuilders@tds.net or (608)222-9480.
Applicant’s Comments:
The owners of the property located at 4942 Lake Mendota Drive would like to demolish the existing two-story house and detached garage, and build a new two story home with an attached garage on the property. They would also like to demolish the existing boathouse with cracked walls and floor (which does not comply with current sideyard setback requirements), and build a new boathouse in the same area of the property which would be code compliant.
If you have any questions about the Plan Commission demolition permit approval process, please contact the City of Madison Planning Division at (608) 266-4635.
PRESERVATION PLANNER
If you care about these issues, you’ve likely already seen this . . . it’s precious.
It’s official- we have hired a new Preservation Planner. Her name is Amy Scanlon and she will begin on June 28. For the past 14 years she has worked as an architect and project manager for an architecture firm in the Philadelphia area. Her experience includes new construction, restoration, renovation and adaptive re-use projects. She has a Bachelor’s of Architecture degree and a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation. She is also a LEED Accredited Professional. She will be a great addition to our staff.
Thanks,
-Billp.s. In case you were wondering or are asked: Yes, she is aware of the Edgewater and has been following it from afar. No, that project had nothing to do with the timing of announcing her hiring.
William A. Fruhling, AICP
