Ok, so Willy St. Coop has said they have been discussing a new location and now Urban Land will be meeting with the neighborhood. Guess they need to get caught up on their marketing since Metcalfe’s grocery stole the show!
Informational Meeting by Urban Land Interests regarding 800 E.
Washington block
Thu, 5-Apr-2012, 7:00 pm (2:00 hrs)The Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association is sponsoring an
informational meeting by Urban Land Interests regarding their proposal
for the 800 E. Washington block (formerly the Don Miller car lot). The meeting will be held beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the community room
of the Tenney Apartments (302 N. Baldwin Street). Doors will open at
6:45 p.m.If you have any questions regarding this meeting, contact TLNA
President Richard Linster at 251-1937 or by email at rlinster@tds.net.
I am amazed that Willy St. is so willing to abandon the most walkable neighborhood in the City and cross the second busiest highway in the state. A huge gain for Tenney-Lapham, but a major loss for Marquette. As somone without a car, I don’t see myself hoofing it across EWA to shop when I can just go to Jenifer St. Market.
What is the benefit to the neighborhood to have Willy Street move a few blocks? Leave the co-op where it is and get a full grocery store on East Washington Avenue. If ULI would have been a little less short-sighted, they would have worked with Metcalf’s to begin with. ULI is dragging their feet, so let them drag them at another location.
