No Day Center for the Homeless This Fall?
WHAT DO WE NEED? ANSWERS!
WHEN DO WE NEED THEM? NOW!!!For the third year in a row, as we approach winter, the county has no plans to have a permanent, comprehensive day center for the homeless. Despite the fact that the county put $600,000 in their budget to buy a building for such a facility. Despite the fact that they had a process to find someone to operate a facility and looking to purchase a facility. Instead, they are prepared give more money to facilities that are not large enough and do not have the programming and amenities that are needed (showers, lockers, programs, social services, AODA groups, etc, etc, etc.) Join us in asking the questions that need to be asked!
WHAT HAPPENED?
1. We’ve known since last November we had funding for a permanent comprehensive day center since November 2012, what have you been doing for 10 months?2. Which properties did you look at? Can we have a list of properties?
3. Why were each of the properties rejected?
4. Looking on the isthmus as a priority, which properties did you look at outside of the isthmus when it became clear that Isthmus properties weren’t available?
5. This is the third year in a row without a plan, why? Is this not a staff or county executive priority?
6. What needs to happen to make something happen by November 1?
PLAN TO PAY PORCHLIGHT AND BETHEL?
7. How many people can safety be at Bethel, within fire code?
8. How many people can safely be at Hospitality House, within fire code?
9. How do people get to Hospitality House? How do they get back downtown?
10. Where will people go on the weekends?
11. Will there be meals?
12. Will the be programming and social services?
13. Will there be lockers?
14. Will there be computers at Hospitality House?
15. Will there be showers?
16. Will there be laundry services?
17. Will there be something for people to do who are using Hospitality House and Bethel?
18. What happens to people who have been banned from these facilities?
19. Will this plan accommodate 125 people a day on average? Including the weekends?
WHO’S RESPONSIBLE? WHO DO WE HOLD ACCOUNTABLE?
20. There is budget authority to make this happen, this is a clear priority, what will it take to make this happen?21. Who is responsible for answering our questions? Who should be held accountable here?
