Wednesday and Thursday Round Up

You know this routine, this is what I have . . . sorry I didn’t finish yesterday morning, distracted by work and SB107

LOCAL NEWS

COUNTY REDISTRICTING PLAN
Thanks to the Verona Press. WSJ editorial board not happy.

OVERTURE MIGHT NOT GET ITS $2M SWEETHEART DEAL
Hmm. Interesting. I’m glad Paul isn’t afraid to piss people off.

CHIEF AMESQUA STEPPING DOWN
I thought she looked a little too happy when I saw her on Tuesday night! First female fire chief in Wisconsin, one of only 7 in the country at the time. And a reminder, the Police and Fire Commission, not council and mayor make the decision on the replacement. She’s moving to Florida.

SAD NEWS
Woman struck and killed by a Madison Metro bus. Almost everyone I’ve heard talk about it have been surprised it doesn’t happen more often. Dane 101 has some photos.

FREE RIDES HOME FROM SUMMER FESTIVALS
$8,000 seems like a small price to pay, why don’t we do this even without a grant?

CONDO OWNERS UP IN ARMS
Don’t want to pay for stoplight on far west side of Madison.

LOCAL BREWPUBS STOP SERVING MILLERCOORS
Um, why were they doing it in the first place?

MADISON TO KILL 350 GEESE
Parks Superintendent won’t comment?

WANNA BUY A SHOPPING MALL?
Sheriff’s sale next Tuesday.

CONGRATS CENTRO HISPANO
Well done!

STATE NEWS

OPEN FOR BUSINESS AND GOING ON A JUNKET
Good for Wisconsin or Madison? Nothing this guy does can be considered good for Wisconsin after all he has done to destroy it. A few biotech companies can’t make up for that.

LAWLESS HUEBSCH SHOULD RESIGN OR BE REMOVED
No doubt.

METAL DETECTORS REMOVED
I was there, I saw it with my own eyes. It is true! Signs remain in place and they seem ready to resume at any moment, tables and plastic tubs remain in place.

METHODISTS PERSECUTE CLERGY FOR MARRYING GAYS
It’s a “just verdict”? Not.

RURAL COMMERCIAL KITCHENS
Catching on.

REPEAL CRAFT BEER PROVISIONS IN STATE BUDGET
More lawmakers pile on to earlier bi-partisan effort to request repeal.

GET YOUR DRINK ON!
2 hours earlier! Except in Madison where they are preparing to make sure that doesn’t happen.

MAKING WAY FOR ARIZONA COPYCAT LAW
Yeah, police don’t have to keep records so they can better discriminate against people of color. Walker’s on board with that!
ACLU questions the wisdom.

CAPITOL SINGER PUNCHED
Two people ticketed, one booked into Dane County Jail, but not former elected official in a wheelchair running over people’s feet and items. Interesting that the guns rights nut now will face a felony charge that could prevent him from carrying a gun. But that probably won’t stop him. More details and video here. Even more here.

ENERGY PROGRAM CUTS BY STATE
Short sighted indeed.

DEM RECALL CHALLENGERS
6 of ’em.

UW UNCERTAIN WHAT ABORTION LANGUAGE MEANS FOR THEM
Do they need to stop training people? Legislation could jeopardize national accreditation for the obstetrics and gynecology training program.

WANNA BECOME A BOUNTY HUNTER?
You will be able to do it in Wisconsin. You could be the next Dog.

NOT IN THE NEWS

See separate post earlier this morning. It got a little long and unmanageable.

  1. Really? $8K for Cross Plains? Prior to the County off-duty Sheriffs providing the rides, Union Cab did it for under $1K. Union Cab provided service for almost ten years and were told last year that off-duty deputies were going to give free rides. Now they are paying $8K! Wow!!!
