Also, did you know there are two county board supervisors running for election this spring? I know they plan to hold a special election to fill the three empty seats (Mary Kolar – District 1, Jeff Pertl District 17, Jenni Dye District 33), but when?
UNREPRESENTED FOR HOW LONG?
Here’s the press release about Mary Kolar leaving the county board that was put out on the 21st. It talks about a whole lot of things besides Mary Kolar leaving the board (county board agenda items). However it says nothing about what her constituents are supposed to do while there are unrepresented. When the special election will be? What the deadlines for circulating papers will be? etc.
So, if you live in District 1 and have a problem, who should you contact?
Also, nearly a month ago (1/29) the press release went out about Jeff Pertl (District 17) and Jenni Dye (District 33) leaving the county board. At least in that press release they say this:
“The County Board will set the date for special elections to fill the seats after the spring election. The timing of the resignations does not allow for the special elections to be at the same time as the already scheduled local government primary and general elections.”
But its been a month, and I haven’t seen anything indicating they are setting those dates and I look at all the agendas.
Meanwhile . . .
And if you live in their districts and have an issue, who do you contact?
Seems like a long time to go without representation, or a plan in place for who constituents can contact. Maybe they have an internal plan? Whatever it is, I couldn’t tell you.
HOW AND WHEN DO YOU RUN FOR THE EMPTY SEATS
I’ve already heard someone is running for Mary Molar’s her seat.
I looked to see if there was any information on if she filed already. But I see nothing on the county clerk’s site for upcoming elections. I guess I will have to stop by and check.

There is no information on the clerks site about potential upcoming spring elections or how to be a candidate in them. Not even a “tbd”.
TWO COUNTY BOARD CANDIDATES THIS SPRING?
I overheard Melissa Ratcliff asking Huong Nguyen-Hilfiger asking how they campaign was going. I felt a little stupid when I realized not only Huong Nguyen-Hilfiger but also Melissa Ratcliff were on the ballot this spring. I mean, I knew. I knew they were appointed with little press coverage. But, where the press about special elections this spring? I couldn’t find a word. Perhaps your googling skills are better than mine?
Here’s the article about Melissa Ratcliff replacing Danielle Williams back in September. Here’s the info about District 35 in Cottage Grove. Her re-election facebook page has a whopping 2 posts, but that’s the only sign of a re-election that I can find online.
Here’s the article on Huong Nguyen-Hilfiger being sworn in on the county board back in July. She replaced Supervisor George Gillis. Here’s the info about district 14 on the City of Madison Southwest side. She has a campaign website. And a facebook page, with two posts, one in December, one in February.
