There is a public hearing at the Labor Temple tonight and many groups are losing money compared to the funding they got in the past. Here’s the winners and losers and those who are keeping their flat funding for two more years, which one might (and should) argue is a loss. You can’t continue providing the same services with the same amount of money . . . costs go up every year. The committee will be making their final recommendations after the public hearing. Don’t expect anything to change, since they didn’t leave any money on the table so at this point, they’d have to take money away from some to give it to others.
42 programs losing money
82 programs are getting no increases for the next two years – even tho the city and the needs are growing
49 programs got new or more money
53 programs haven’t ever gotten funding and won’t get it this year
Last year, these programs got a total of 6,251,612
This year, there were requests for 11,177,267 and only 6,465,152 is recommended for funding.
The needs out there are great. And many of the programs could help with issues in neighborhoods that the police might not have to deal with later. The police budget is $58,736,840. In comparison, the community services budget is peanuts.
Anyways, here’s what I have, hopefully the info is all correct. The source document is here.
